Cabbage – Glamour At Thee Ritz – Manchester – May 19th – Preview
Cabbage’s upcoming show, Glamour At Thee Ritz is shaping up to one of the events of the year with a truly classic line up of Manchester bands. Fellow Mossleyites Afghan Sand Gang are the latest band to be added to the bill. Nigel Carr checks out the line-up for Louder Than War.
Afghan Sand Gang
Combining elements of so-called Krautrock and indie in to a deep groove electronic Shoegaze. Described by Lee Broadbent from Cabbage as “They are infectious to the point it’s indescribable”. John Robb made them our new band of the day here: https://louderthanwar.com/new-band-of-the-day-afghan-sand-gang-krautdance-electronic-shoegaze-from-manchester/
Riff heavy three-piece punk band formed out of Tunbridge Wells. Stripped back, raw with rapped overlay.
Lady Bird – Spoons
London’s Sports Team slightly wonkier off-beat indie-punk with a big Cave type vocal
Incendiary four-piece punk band from Manchester known for wild on-stage antics. We interviewed the band here: https://louderthanwar.com/witch-fever-interview/
The Rhythm Method
London based duo with a lighter, popper funk-soul feel, with a big voice.
Something For The Weekend
Manchester five-piece indie punk with a DIY ethic – two albums in and as fresh as ever. Sam Lambert interviewed them for Louder Than War here: https://louderthanwar.com/pins-interview-louder-war/
Serve The Rich
Louder Than War favourites with a string of visceral ‘punkadelic’ singles behind them on the cusp of major success. Their Gavin Monaghan produced debut album is due to drop late Autumn. They are hotly tipped for major success. We reviewed them at The Deaf Institute, Manchester. https://louderthanwar.com/the-blinders-deaf-institute-live-review/
Latest Single – L’etat C’est Moi
The subject of almost blanket coverage on Louder Than War, Mossley’s finest are riding the wave of a number 21 debut album in Nihilistic Glamour Shots launched at Manchester’s Art Gallery last month. They have curated one of the strongest line-ups into what is now surely classed as a mini festival! Get there early, doors open at 5 with a curfew at 11pm!
