Britpop top 10 :

number 4 Verve ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’

At first Verve were fantastic loons with a deep love of the rock n roll excess and madness of the Stooges and other gonzoid kings of rock n roll palace of excess. Somehow after touring with Oasis they reconnected with their northern roots and came down to earth with a glorious bump and a swerve in direct that combined their madness with classic songwriting. Bitter Sweet Symphony sampled Andrew Loog Oldham’s orchestral version of the Rolling Stones the LAst Time and turned it into a huge anthem that was a transatlantic hit – proper classic.
