Billy Bragg will be headlining an anti-austerity music gig The Welcome to Manchester Party at the People’s History Museum from 12pm-10pm Saturday 3rd October.

Organised by musician Sam Duckworth, it is one of 250 We Shall Overcome events that will go ahead across the UK on the same weekend, to support people affected by government cuts and raise funds and encourage donations to foodbanks.

Sam says:

“Manchester is like a second home to me. Over the last decade of touring I’ve spent a lot of time in the city, making friends, playing shows and getting to know its unique culture. The weekend of the 3/4 October is a big weekend for protest in the UK. In We Shall Overcome the UK is witnessing its biggest grassroots, cross-venue, protest festival as hundreds stand in solidarity. There is no better place for this than the People’s History Museum, a jewel in Manchester’s crown.”

Joining Billy Bragg on stage will be Sam Duckworth (fka Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly), Billy Lunn (The Subways), Brigitte Aphrodite, The Lottery Winners, Seán McGowan, Eat the Evidence, Tim OT, Longy and Josiah Mortimer.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to support the People’s History Museum, Women for Refugee Women and the People’s Assembly Against Austerity.

The event will also feature empty supermarket shelves for a Reverse

Supermarket Sweep, collecting food donations for Manchester South Central

FoodBank. A Foreign currency exchange will also be open for

donations of currency to displaced people.
