BIG | BRAVE announce European tour dates in April and May 2022

Canadian sonic experimentalist BIG | BRAVE have announced an extensive European tour in support of their latest album, VITAL which was released in late June via Southern Lord.

Initially formed as a duo of Robin Wattie and Mathieu Ball they started writing ambient/minimalistic folk songs. When long time friend Louis Alexandre Beauregard joined on drums, the goal still remained the same, however following an incident where Wattie’s acoustic guitar broke, a friend’s electric guitar was used as a replacement – the sound was expanded when larger amps that Ball had in storage were utilised. That amplitude was then used as a compositional tool, almost becoming an instrument – yet BIG | BRAVE didn’t abandon their ambient core, instead they understood that the juxtaposition of both was the direction to follow; a journey they are continuing upon with their fifth album ‘Vital’, essentially the album is built around minimal chords augmented with layer upon layer of effects, delays and vocals.

A full European tour has been announced which includes ten UK dates held in some of the best regional venues in the country; following the positive reception to ‘Vital’ demand is expected to be high. If you get the chance, we heartily recommend you see BIG | BRAVE.

Phil Newall is 47, from The Wirral - he earns his living not writing about music nor playing music...though sorely wishes he could. He was fortunate enough to see many of the first generation punk bands when they played the U18's matinee shows at Eric's, Liverpool. As an attendee at Eric's he was exposed to punk rock, dub reggae, art rock, and all manner of weirdness; as a customer at Probe Records he was variously served and scowled at by Pete Wylie and Pete Burns - he has written for Record Collector, Whisperin & Hollerin, and Spiral Scratch and wanted to write a book detailing the Liverpool punk scene; however with 'Head-On' Julian Cope beat him to it...and frankly did a much better job.
