if you still want to hear the real alternative, sign the petition or email the BBC...BBC culling specialist regional music shows

Let’s get this straight. We love the BBC. It’s one of those great British institutions like the National Health Service that make you feel proud to come from here. Quality programming and some great music coverage over the years have been part of our lives..

BUT there is a cull of the great local specialist DJs going on. The DJs who have alternative shows. People like Steve Barker with ‘On The Wire’ on Radio Lancs and Roger Hill in Liverpool. There is some budgeting going on and these much loved shows, which cost very little, are under threat.

Why does local radio have to be so mundane? Why does it have to be Radio Humdrum? Not everyone loves Westlife and inane DJ babble.

Why is alternative radio so weak and fake? Why is Scouting For Girls the only alternative we are allowed to have?

It’s like the way John Peel was gettinge edged out and then he died and was turned into a saint. We should treasure these DJs whilst we can. The enthusiasts and the music fans are under threat of corporate carpet bombing…

The following email was sent to us by Roger Hill’s people but it could also apply to Steve Barker and his show.

Please write to the BBC and make them realise how much we treasure these shows…

……..

We have about 5 days to muster a final burst of support for our Radio Merseyside programme “PMS” –www.pmsradio.co.uk (more information on the front page of the site). The BBC Trust will close its consultations at the beginning of December. There has been a particularly strong response from the Merseyside area to the threat to its specialist music programmes and ours amongst them. We’re very grateful to all who responded.

All anybody needs to do is to send a short mail of comment and it will all count and may help to secure the future of our broadcasting.
