Looking for a new car, maybe something more economical, maybe something ideal to head off to all those summer festivals, or maybe something a bit more sporty? Do you want a Batmobile? We do, but there’s one catch: it’ll cost you more than a large house.

Casey Putsch, of Putsch Racing, has listed the car on eBay in the US and wants $620,000 (£383,000) for his prized possession. The current average house price in the UK – £228,095.

For your money you’ll get an authentic replica of the Batmobile driven by Michael Keaton in the Tim Burton-directed ‘Batman’ film of 1989. Putsch claims his version is the “world’s only turbine-powered bat car”.
Built in his professional racing facility this year, the car also boasts a 365-horsepower Boeing turboshaft engine, a centrally mounted touch-screen iPad with 3G, and racing approved on-board halon fire extinguishing system (just in case).

In addition, Putsch is keen to stress that his creation is not just for show. He says on the eBay page that “construction is in a completely different league than both replicas and of course the movie prop cars” and that it has a “perfect reliability record”.

The vehicle also runs on jet, kerosene or diesel fuel, so pump mix-ups are unlikely.

Phil Newall is 47, from The Wirral - he earns his living not writing about music nor playing music...though sorely wishes he could. He was fortunate enough to see many of the first generation punk bands when they played the U18's matinee shows at Eric's, Liverpool. As an attendee at Eric's he was exposed to punk rock, dub reggae, art rock, and all manner of weirdness; as a customer at Probe Records he was variously served and scowled at by Pete Wylie and Pete Burns - he has written for Record Collector, Whisperin & Hollerin, and Spiral Scratch and wanted to write a book detailing the Liverpool punk scene; however with 'Head-On' Julian Cope beat him to it...and frankly did a much better job.

  1. Sacrilege i tell thee!!!!! there’s only one Batmobile that’s worth spending money on and it is the one that stole hearts and minds of young boys. If I had the money and the room to store this it would be in my garage right now.

George Barris (The cars creator) told me that an LAPD officer once got in to hot water for impounding one of the original Batmobiles for not being street legal. He was given a stern telling off by his boss!

  3. Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
