Louder Than War LogoMuch has been made in recent years of the power of social networking and it has caused a revolution in the way that bands and music fans communicate their high decibel message. The large sprawling underground that sees amazing sevens in places like Russia or east Europe beyond the disinterested music biz snobs is down to the digital click click click and in the 21st century the bands are the media!

And yet…

And yet for something so simple there are a surprising amount of hurdles. Most bands want a simple communication tool to keep in touch with their fans/followers but even this is beyond most social networks.

For underground music that exists outside the mainstream, the digital world has been a godsend and it could be claimed that Facebook et al has saved the underground but in recent times with the tightening up of social media belts life it’s getting harder again. We can’t keep paying for micro boosts when we are increasingly uncertain of the results.

Hey, big companies we just want to be your friends. You want to be ‘hip and cool’. Help us to help you!

So what do we want…well here is a list…

1. Facebook is still the world brand leader in the field but with an aging fan base and the mystical art of their algorithms and a determination to push people towards their ads and boosted posts Facebook is entering an uneasy period with the musicians.

It doesn’t have to be this way – what we propose is a gold star model where a band pays a subscription of, lets say £10 a month, to Facebook for their band page knowing that for want of argument that every post will get to everyone who follows them and not to a random sample of their following.

Facebook you should do this. It will make you look like our friend and it will make you loads of regular money – what’s not to like?

2. Twitter still seems to work ok but the impact of each tweet is drowned in the avalanche of information – there must be a way to make this work?

3. Instagram…Now I love Instagram – I never realized that the world was so full of such great photographers and I love all the effects you can put on the photos as it makes them into works of art.

Now what we need here is a way of making direct links under the photos if we are trying to sell a gig or a record – we are prepared to pay for a monthly gold star for this as well.

4. Facebook again – not picking on Facebook – it’s just as the world’s biggest SN it crops up in conversation all the time.

Why do we only get 5000 friends on a page? If it was a true amount of friends it would be about 5. So let’s not pretend that 5000 is the average number of friends people have. Why can’t we go past 5000 – in the modern world many of us move around a lot and know a lot of people all over the world – these are our digital, 21st century friends – we meet them in different cities across the planet for few minutes and are intense micro friends – lets reflect this! unleash the number of friends on one page!!
