Newly signed to Partisan Records, the Irish songwriter shares a mesmerising composition from her upcoming second album.
Emptiness Follows is a spring-time offering, with alluring pop sensibility and folk fragility akin to that of Vashti Bunyan. Referring to the upfront manner of her vocals, the songwriter names Serge Gainsbourg as the main influence.
Permeating throughout the transparent texture of the song, the sound of harp unveils a dimension of deep emotion. Elaborating on the origin, Aoife says: “Emptiness Follows is about the intimacy and deep emotional connection of friendship. The song captures these moments — the water as the weight of the emotional connection we share, the small details we remember ‘the shape sits beneath your earlobe’”.
In keeping with the theme behind the song, the video for Emptiness Follows relies on imagery that hints at the imponderable depth of the subconscious and things beyond it.
Emptiness Follows will be released on a cassette, including the B-side Emptiness Follows (Dreams of Our Love), an experimental alternative to the A-side. The release will be out on 17 June and is available for pre-order on streaming platforms.
Aoife Nessa Frances will embark on the European tour later this year. The dates can be viewed here.
