Alt fest release statement about cancellationShame this festival is not going to happen- great looking bill- we hope they try again next year.

The statement on the Alt fest Facebook page reads

‘We at Alt-Fest HQ would like to sincerely apologise for our silence over the last 24 hours. Currently we are working all hours to deal with some extremely challenging & stressful issues for Alt-Fest. We will be able to provide an official statement with full information before Monday and answer any questions you may have at that time. We want you to know that we have been doing everything we can to take the right steps for you: our fans, friends & customers – we assure you we only have your best interests at heart.’

  1. Having read the numerous comments about this on FB, along with this statement that doesn’t actually state anything concrete, I can only conclude the following:

It’s pretty evident that they didn’t have enough money to pay the headliners, hence those headliners have been told that it’s cancelled and have stated this online. So the organisers are probably trying to go ahead with a smaller festival where they don’t have to pay the ‘big names’ the ‘big money’, and they aren’t bothering to inform people of this because if they cancel, everyone has to get refunded – but in their terms and conditions if they go ahead with a smaller festival they don’t have to cancel because to them it’s still Alt-Fest, albeit without any of the main headliners.

This is a pretty disgusting way to treat people because if the above is indeed what’s going on, it shows that the organisers care more about getting money for the festival than they do about the people who funded it and made it (seemingly) possible in the first place. I’m pretty sure that most of those who signed up for the festival in the first place did so because of the big name headliners and not for a bunch of smaller bands who frequently play other festivals (no offence to any of those bands, but we all know most people wanted to see Manson, Combichrist, Numan, Nephilim et al and paid for this privilege). If the organisers cared about the backers and attendees (and bands!) they would admit that they bit off more than they could chew, and would cancel it, thus enabling people to get some money back. As it is, if they are pushing for a smaller downsized Alt Fest, it will NOT be the Alt Fest that everyone wanted, and because it’ll still be Alt Fest in name only, they don’t have to pay anyone back because technically it’s not cancelled.

I hope that people will see the organisers for what they are – a pair of money-hungry charlatans – and will refuse to support anything organised by them again. Had they bothered to address this issue sooner (because they must have known this was coming) then perhaps I would have a less vitriolic opinion of them. But they didn’t. All of the idiots on FB who are still supporting this festival and don’t care about the big names – how about you try looking at it from the perspective of an American citizen who has spent thousands of dollars on travel and accommodation for something and will now probably not be able to get any of that money back.
