Adele overtakes Oasis as the 4th best selling British album of all time

Looks like the Gallaghers are going to have to bury the hatchet and not into each others backs…

Adele’s 21 album has just overtaken Oasis What’s The Story as the 4the selling album of all time. Interesting to note that in these times of low record sales that you can still get a huge selling record. Also when Oasis finally do reform will their back catalogue start selling in large amounts again.

In a surprisingly close top five best selling albums, Adele now needs half a million more sales of her second record to go above Abba, who are third. Her album 21 has now sold 4,562,000 copies and has already passed Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon earlier this year.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller is still the best-selling album ever across the world with AC/DC Back In Black at number 2.

The top five biggest-selling albums in the UK are:

1 – Greatest Hits – Queen (1981) 5,866,000 copies sold

2 – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band – The Beatles (1967) 5,059,000

3 – Gold: Greatest Hits – ABBA (1992) 5,046,000

4 – 21 – Adele (2011) 4,562,000

5 – (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? – Oasis (1995) 4,555,000
