A Selection Of This Week’s Best Videos. 6th Oct.

Each week there’s a whole host of new videos released that we’d love to share with you but sadly time never permits.

However there’s no reason for us not to get to Saturday & put a few of them together into a randomly numbered list of our favourites.

Here’s this week’s list.

So what did we miss? There’s bound to be something. Let us know in the comments.

Morrissey – “To Give (Is the Reason I Live),”

Prior to a tour of the US Morrissey dropped into Jimmy Fallon’s TV studio’s & played a couple of songs. This one’s the cover of “To Give (Is the Reason I Live)”, the 1967 single by Frankie Valli, that appeared on his 2006 album, Ringleader of the Tormentors.

The Front Bottoms – Twelve Feet Deep”

Fresh from a successful tour with The Menzingers (I caught the Bristol date & although at first the audience treated them with wariness they ended up really warming to them) The Front Bottoms just released a video of a stripped down version of their song “Twelve Feet Deep”. One not stripped down they may remind you of The Thermals.

Nas – Cherry Wine (Explicit) ft. Amy Winehouse

This week Nas released the video to ‘Cherry Wine’, one of the tracks featuring both him & the late Amy Winehouse. Nas was quoted (while in conversation with NME) as saying the track “came from God, and Amy”.

Riverboat Gamblers – Eviction Notice

Texan punk band Riverboat Gamblers this week released a new video for their song, “Eviction Notice”, a track off their 2012 recording, The Wolf You Feed .

Lukid – USSR

This week Lukid released this track as a free download. It’s taken from his forthcoming new LP Lonely At The Top on Werk Discs.

MEN – Let Them Out Or Let Me In

JD Samson, Riot Girrrl big sister and important influence on Pussy Riot released this video on the eve of the appeal of the sentence of Masha, Nadia and Katja. Of course as we now know the case was adjourned but that doesn’t make the video any less worth watching.

Levellers – Raft Of The Medusa

Levellers have released the next instalment of their project to record a video for every track from their recently released album this time it’s the turn of Static On The Airwaves to get the treatment.

Strung Out / The Swellers: Justified Black Eye (No Use for a Name)

Strung Out and The Swellers were on tour last week & on one of the dates they did this cover of No Use for a Name’s “Justified Black Eye.”

Allo Darlin’ – Northern Lights

Northern Lights is the third single to be taken from Allo Darlin’s second album ‘Europe’, which was released on Fortuna POP! in May.

Originals Remixed – TOKiMONSTA Documentary

LA based electro producer TOKiMONSTA joined ORIGINALS REMIXED last week to “represent LA sounds and female beat makers across the globe.” Love this woman.

Perfume Genius – Take Me Home

Love this guy too. Another track taken from one of the standout albums of the year ‘Put Your Back N 2 It’, this one features some cross dressing & gas stations.

Bo Ningen – Henkan

Hard rockin’ band Bo Ningen this week released a video by way of a plug for a new album ‘Line The Wall’ due out on Monday. The band will be heading out on tour soon after that & you’re advised to take in one of those dates as live they rock balls out style.

Archive – Hatchet

Originally from London but now Paris based music collective Archive have a new single out taken from the album ‘With Us Until You’re Dead’.

Lawrence Arabia – The Listening Times

“Everyone’s favourite dandy kiwi LAWRENCE ARABIA has just unveiled an intriguing video to effortlessly melodic new single ‘The Listening Times’. Sometimes just copy & pasting from a press release seems like the sensible thing to do!

ANTIBANG – All These Toys

Stunning (though poss not for the squeamish) video from the UK’s answer to Animal Collective, Leeds based Antibang. The track featured is soon to become the bands newest single.

GWAR: Carry On My Wayward Son (Kansas cover)

The A.V. Club is where artists perform covers from a select list of songs. This is the final one & they went out with a doozy, getting intergalactic warriors Gwar in to cover Kansas’s 1977 hit, “Carry on My Wayward Son.” Bedlam ensued. (Apols for the ads you have to wait through to get to the meat of the vid).

Finlay – Your Sister

The incredibly talented Finlay dropped this video last week. You can download it for free here. Think a Mancunian version of Alison Mosshart playing with Jack White. This gal’s gonna go a long way if we have anything to do with it.

Gojira: Explosia

The brutally powerful death metallers (from France) this week released a video for “Explosia.”, a track taken from L’Enfant Sauvage.

Flying Lotus Isn’t Tripping (All The Time)

The amazing Flylo had a chat with the guys at Noisey this week. See the results below.

Death Grips – True Vulture Bare

Quite a week for Death Grips. Apart from the stuff detailed here some kid also discovered a hidden track while nerding about on the bands website. Here it. And hear it, natch.

Guy is a former full time member of the Louder Than War editorial team, who's since moved on to pastures new. Music's been a large part of his life since he first stumbled across Peel on his tranny as a fifteen year old. His whole approach to music was learnt from Peel in fact, which includes having as inclusive a taste in music as possible. Guy devotes most of his time looking for new music & although he's been known to say "the only good music is new music" he pretty much accepts this is bollocks. Favourite band The Minutemen.

  1. Great selection of videos. Just an fyi, however, Morrissey’s cover of “To Give (The Reason I Live)” didn’t appear on Ringleaders, nor on any other of his albums so far. He’s only performed it live on tour since March of this year.
