A Night for Jon Brookes with The Charlatans & Friends

At The Royal Albert Hall

Friday 18th October 2013

In aid of the Brain Tumour Charity

The Charlatans and SJM Concerts announce details of a very special night at The Royal Albert Hall on Friday October 18th in memory and celebration of Jon Brookes.  The Charlatans drummer died last month after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010. Proceeds from the night will go to The Brain Tumour Charity.

The Charlatans said:

“Following the loss of our much missed friend and drummer, Jon Brookes, we, together with some friends, are putting on a show at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday 18thOctober 2013. The show will benefit THE BRAIN TUMOUR CHARITY, which Jon wasinvolved with during his illness. It’s our way of raising money for research into and awareness of a cancer that will unfortunately affect many lives as it has ours. We look forward to seeing you at the RAH and making it a night toremember.”

Over 9,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year and brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, yet less than 2% of cancer research funding goes on brain tumours in the UK.  The Brain Tumour Charity is committed to changing this and this year alone will invest £2.5million in world-class, pioneering research across the UK this year, making it significantly the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours in the UK.  The Charity is accredited and commended by The Association ofMedical Research Charities for ensuring that all the research it funds is selected through stringent, independent peer review, the only charity in its field to do so.

The Charity also offers a comprehensive service to enable everyone with a brain tumour, their families and carers to receive the best support and information and achieve the highest quality of life possible, as well as raising awareness of brain tumours to improve life chances and reduce diagnosis times.

The money raised by the tribute concert to Jon Brookes will be invested into research which seeks to find better treatments and ultimately a cure, so that in future other families will not have to experience this devastation and loss.
