A new competition has been launched to find and mentor new festival headliners.

New bands will be given classes in becoming festival headliners in an attempt to challenge the dominance of the same acts headlining UK festivals (Not strictly true that though!)

Music insiders who help guide the careers of Liam Gallagher, Charli XCX and The Libertines will mentor and develop the careers of the winning artists chosen from a nationwide talent search.

The Pirate Prodigy Programme has been launched by Pirate Studios, a UK-wide network of 150 rehearsal rooms and production facilities, which has helped an estimated 20,000 musicians hone their acts.

The three Pirate Prodigy winners will receive unlimited free studio time, recording with top engineers, as well as mentoring and masterclasses covering songwriting, management, live performance and PR. Festival slots for winners.

The winners will secure festival slots as well as a guaranteed audience with top-level talent scouts at invite-only shows. Brit-award winning singer Kate Nash will be a competition judge.

The mentors include David Bianchi and John Dawkins, managers of the chart-topping Charli XCX and The Libertines, Gordon Smart, presenter on indie station Radio X and Red Stripe’s This Feeling TV and Katie Gwyther, Liam Gallagher’s media adviser.
