Zombina & The Skeletones in bid for Halloween #1…
Zombina & The Skeletones
”ËTeenage Caveman Beat Gargantum / Futurelife’ (Ectoplastic Records)
7” Ltd Vinyl/DL
Available 28th October 2011
Tis’ that time of year again; the local Tesco won’t sell flour and eggs to anyone under 65, the streets are thronged with kids looking like extra’s from a George Romero remake ”â Pensioners refuse to open their doors, not strictly true that; they can’t for all the flour and eggs they have stockpiled”¦ When doors are opened an assortment of ghouls, psycho killers and zombies attempt to wrestle money from you; if you refuse your house gets an instant ”Ëbatter mix’ makeover ”â we love it!!
Not that any of this bothers Zombina & The Skeletones, it seems they would positively encourage such acts; as long as you did it whilst playing their new single, specially released in an effort to secure the Halloween #1 spot.
“Teenage Caveman Beat Gargantum” is a sax driven, monster rockin’, corpse rattlin’ David and Goliath’ tale of a young Neanderthal’s monster-slaying rite of passage ”â did you expect anything less? Opening with a pummeling dino beat, the drummer raining raptor bones upon skins pulled taut across T-rex skulls, a throbbing zombie bass, then mistress Zombina steps up and lets rip accompanied by a wailing sax; the entire track builds, driving forward as the Skeletones howl their King Kurt style ”Ëhey, ooooh’ appreciation as another monster is felled ”â and all this in just 1min 57sec!
In contrast “Futurelife” transports you forward into the realm of space travel, robots and flying cars ”â a semi early Devo type tune complete with humming synths and necessary intergalactic whistles and bleeps; not quite the Modal Nodes at Mos Eisley Cantina, this has added sex appeal; so more the soundtrack to Barbarella showing Bleep & Booster the ropes!!
Zombina is aiming for the Halloween #1 slot ”â the 7” single is now available for pre-order, there will be just 250 hand-numbered copies pressed on monster slime coloured vinyl complete with artwork from legendary garage rock cartoonist Darren Merinuk, after that its available as a digital download. The aim is that everyone needs to download their copy between October 28th and midnight on the 31st – or the world won’t turn in to a pumpkin. Follow the #1 campaign to see how they do.
Halloween is fun, stupid fun ”â Zombina & The Skeletones “Teenage Caveman Beat Gargantum” is the clever way to celebrate the stupid”¦
Whatever the outcome; #1 or #100 Ӊ Zombina & The Skeletones will be celebrating at their Halloween Homecoming show at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes (Psychobowl), London on October 31st; how cool is that? Horror punk and your chance to get some clean games on some cheesy cakes (for the strokers amongst you)
