Wormrot: Singapore thrashcore thrills at Incubate festival: live review
Incubate Festival at Little Devil Bar
Incubate festival is very well represented in hardcore and thrash, the DIY thrash underground is huge in Holland and many of the towns have multiple venues and whats left of the squats catering to the intense noise, I saw what’s left of the squats because the government finally made them totally illegal last year although many people are still hanging on and fighting back as much as they can against yet another example of just how non liberal Holland really is.
Wormrot are from Singapore and yet another example of the international reach of hardcore and post hardcore thrash. I’m getting lots internet communication form punk scenes in Indonesia, skinheads in Malaysia or thrashcore bands in China, it’s fast becoming an international and under the radar community of noise.
The band are a three piece guitar/ drums and vocals and they tear it up with perfect twenty minute set of high octane thrash. The songs last barely longer than a minute and are fast and screaming blats of sound, super tight and super intense, the fierce screech is liberating and oddly relaxing working in a weird drone level just underneath the frantic energy of the music. Wormrot have got this thing nailed with their natural smiling charm superbly acting as a counterpoint to the musics fuck you spew of energy and ideas.
There is an innate and filthy power to the music and the songs short, sharp shock assault is perfect…keep the idea, no frills, no fat. They are signed to Earache Records have a couple of albums out and are making the perfect life affirming racket.
