TV historian David Starkey blames riots on the ‘whites becoming black’
Historian David Starkey has told BBC’s Newsnight ”the whites have become black” in a discussion on the England riots with author and broadcaster Dreda Say Mitchell and the author of Chavs, Owen Jones.
He also hit out at what he called the ”destructive, nihilistic gangster culture” which he said ”has become the fashion.”
The blame game has started and one of the first to get in there is controversial ‘TV historian’ David Starkey who sees the recent rioting as something to do with so called ‘black culture’ and gangster rap.
All a bit pecuiliar especially for a historian not to know that there is along history of rioting and looting that has little to do with with his reasons. From riots in in ancient Pompeii to the riots in the second world war neither so called ‘black culture’ or rap music have had any connection with them.
Is this another case of blame pop culture for the ills of society like Marilyn Manson getting the blame for Columbine shootings? Gangster rap is indeed fascinated by violence but then so are Grimms fairy tales and the Bible and no one ever blames them for anything.
