Trent Reznor confirms new Nine Inch Nails album in 2012…
There has been a huge amount of internet chatter regarding Leona Lewis and her cover version of Nine Inch Nails ‘The Hurt’ (LTW feature) – it only got worse when she appeared last night (Sat 10th Dec) on The X-Factor to perform the track; most notably leaving out the “I wear a crown of shit” line…
However there is some good news; Trent Reznor has suggested that Nine Inch Nails may release a new full-length album in 2012.
Reznor, who has just completed work on the soundtrack for David Fincher’s ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ film, has confirmed that he will resume work under the moniker of Nine Inch Nails in earnest next year. NIN last released a full album in 2008 with ‘The Slip’.
Rather bizarrely he was speaking to The Sun when he confirmed that his focus was now very much on Nine Inch Nails, stating: “NIN is not dead by any means, but all the touring and record writing has been thrown off for a little bit. I highly expect that to be the focus of 2012 in terms of writing and we may see a full-length release even”.
Reznor also revealed that David Bowie was his inspiration to when he decided to place NIN in hiatus in favour of new project How To Detroy Angels and to work on the soundtracks of ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ and the Oscar winning ‘The Social Network’.
He commented “It started to feel like if I didn’t force myself into a change I would regret it. It’s a fear of not wanting to try things because you’re in a comfort zone. I always think about my hero David Bowie and his fearlessness to destroy something that isn’t ready to break yet and start something new”.
He continued: “He’d throw out an identity, confuse his audience and it’s a great risk career-wise. But he had the balls and didn’t milk it out to the last drop”.

Reznor’s ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ soundtrack (Mute Records), was composed with Atticus Ross, will be released later today, with a sampler, consisting of six tracks, available for free download now from Dragontattoo.sandbaghq.com
Ross will be known to LTW readers from his early work with Bomb The Bass, he has also worked with Barry Adamson, Alan Moulder and Janes Addiction.
‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ was directed by David Fincher and stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, and will be released in UK cinemas on Boxing Day.

“cover version of Nine Inch Nails ‘The Hurt’” If I am not mistaken the title of the song is simply “Hurt”.
