[caption id="attachment_25356" align="alignright" width="240"] the hit Factory is rained off, a nation yawns[/caption]
The Hit Factory festival in London which was in Hyde Park In london on 11 July and a celebration of the Stock, Aiken and Waterman pop machine featuring the cast of long forgotten types like Rick Astley, Jason Thingy, Hazell Somebody, Sonia Something, Lonnie O'Dear, Sinitta Burgers as well as Lee, Claire, Lisa, Faye and H from the legendary Steps as well as Pepsi and Shirlie and loads of other pre X Factor pop heroes has been cancelled.
Promoters are blaming the weather which has been pretty hideous this summer but all other Hyde park concerts are still on and the nearby Guildford Festival is still running this weekend. We imagine it is the weather but some are saying ticket sales may not have been that great, although who are we to doubt the spectacle of seeing Rick Astley in a field?
It does bring into question the durability of so called pop.
These singers were BBC radio one Smashey and Nicey staples at the time and like a lot of the stuff played on the radio now they have zero durability. Why can't the mainstream media mix it up? bands they didn't play until they really had to like the Stone Roses and Nirvana are now legendary- the PWL stuff remains a footnote.
