Rebellion Festival 2017 – line-up review

Having previously announced headliners including Slaves, and Bad Religion, Rebellion oragnisers have been busy filling some of the other 200+ slots that ultimately occupy 5 stages, plus additional acoustic and spoken word stages.

Notable additions to the line-up include Pennywise, Misty In Roots, Ruts DC, The Skids, Leftover Crack, Dead Boys, Face to Face, and Propagandhi who are set to join Richie Ramone who is making a welcome return after igniting the 2016 Tower Street Arena, Steve Ignorant & Paranoid Visions will be performing a set consisting entirely of Steve’s best material from 1977 to 2017, so should include versions of tracks from Crass, Conflict, Schwartzeneggar, Stratford Mercenaries, and perhaps even Current 93.

Other confirmations include the return of both Toyah and Lene Lovich. Teenage Bottlerocket are to make their Rebellion debut, and according to rumours will be performing material from their forthcoming album set for release via Fat Wreck Chords; Inca Babies are to make their Rebellion debut, perhaps even showcasing some material from their as yet untitled forthcoming release.

(If they can find a stage big enough) Dirt Box Disco will be keeping security busy as hoards indulge in the almost ritualistic crowd-surfing though this time it will be to the sounds of the bands by then released ‘Poppycock’ album, TV Smith will for sure be playing more than one show, however look out for his Adverts set.

Evil Blizzard are set to create more mayhem, which is also to be expected from the Bollock Brothers…time to dust off those old 12″ ‘Drac’s Back’ EPs; look out for the Bar Steward Sons Of Val Doonican, the equally off-kilter Wonk Unit, and the incredible Interobang, the Soap Girls are sure to secure a massive audience, as will Hands Off Gretel who needed a bigger venue in 2016; apparently Super Fast Girlie Show are to release new material at the festival, whilst The Membranes will be performing tracks from their current ‘Dark Matter / Dark Energy’ album and the as yet untitled follow up due later in the year.

The Rebellion Introducing Stage has grown to be one of the most interesting stages of the festival, now running across all 4 days with already confirmed to 2017; from the USA – Tiger Sex, from Switzerland – Uberyou, from Wales – Pizzatramp who have just released the brilliant ‘Blowing Chunks’ album via TNS Records, and all the way from Brazil – Dedo Podre.

The festival takes place at The Winter Gardens, Blackpool, UK
Thursday 3rd – Sun 6th August 2017

Final band day and stage allocations are still to be confirmed.
