Noel Gallagher and his high flying birds walked casually onto the stage of a sold out Olympia Theatre, with Noel almost swaggerless, whilst ‘Blue Moon’ played in the background. Noel opened his set with the B-side, ‘(It’s Good) To Be Free’, which was met with a surge of echoing from the mod-clad and remarkably dressed audience.

It didn’t take Noel long to engage in football banter with the fervent crowd, following Manchester City’s win over rivals Manchester United in the Derby earlier in the day. Looking sanguine and at ease, the front man broke into more tracks from his UK and Ireland number one debut solo album, such as, ‘Everybody’s On The Run’, ‘Dream On’, ‘If I Had A Gun’, ‘The Good Rebel’ and ‘Death Of You And Me’. The mirroring of lyrics from the fans, was testament that Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds had delivered what the fans anticipated. As the brighter lights dimmed, Noel donned an acoustic guitar, and with just drummer, Jeremy Stacey and Mike Rowe on keyboards (from ‘Be Here Now’ World tour), the three eloquently sailed into ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Supersonic’ (Oasis debut single from all those years ago) and the Oasis B-side, ‘Half The World Away’ and ‘Talk Tonight’. A second standing ovation ensued, which saw Noel standing back absorbing the reception from the enthusiastic and ecstatic Dublin audience.

The three song encore commenced with an acoustic set of, ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, which had everybody gripping the nearest person and embracing every single word and sung with a passion that could virtually be immersed throughout Dublin town. This was followed with, ‘The Importance Of Being Idle’ and finishing up with, ‘Little By Little’. Another and standing final ovation ensued as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds left the stage and the legacy of what was an incredible debut gig.
