Morrissey statement on Manchester Arena tragedy

Morrissey © Melanie SmithMorrissey has caused controversy with his statement about the Manchester tragedy…

From Morrissey Official Facebook page

Celebrating my birthday in Manchester as news of the Manchester Arena bomb broke. The anger is monumental.
For what reason will this ever stop?
Theresa May says such attacks “will not break us”, but her own life is lived in a bullet-proof bubble, and she evidently does not need to identify any young people today in Manchester morgues. Also, “will not break us” means that the tragedy will not break her, or her policies on immigration. The young people of Manchester are already broken – thanks all the same, Theresa. Sadiq Khan says “London is united with Manchester”, but he does not condemn Islamic State – who have claimed responsibility for the bomb. The Queen receives absurd praise for her ‘strong words’ against the attack, yet she does not cancel today’s garden party at Buckingham Palace – for which no criticism is allowed in the Britain of free press. Manchester mayor Andy Burnham says the attack is the work of an “extremist”. An extreme what? An extreme rabbit?
In modern Britain everyone seems petrified to officially say what we all say in private. Politicians tell us they are unafraid, but they are never the victims. How easy to be unafraid when one is protected from the line of fire. The people have no such protections.’

  1. Jo Cox was a politician and she was murdered in cold blood on the streets

  2. for once, i agree with him. cant see one single thing wrong or controversial about any of it

  3. Cormac O'Neill

Weird that he’d go on about how people are beating around the bush and not cry ally say exactly what he thinks! Does he think Muslims in general are responsible, or what?

  4. Nothing contraversial here. Just stating the obvious. All sound common sense.

  5. “They are never the victims”. Has Morrissey really forgotten the brutal slaughter of Jo Cox MP so quickly?
Yet another bitter, hate-filled diatribe from this serial racist and misanthrope.
The editorial decision to publicise these hateful remarks is highly questionable.

  6. Jeez guys why are you giving this idiot publicity? You don’t have to report everything y’know.

There’s more to life than click & good web stats.

  7. If his statement causes confusion it’s not because it’s factually incorrect.

In response to Islamasist violence no one mentions Islam. Why not? This is not the same as virtually any other sort of violence.

The people who do this tell us again and again why they do it. It is because they believe that they have a divine mandate to do this, or even worse, a divine obligation to do it.

That mandate comes from Islam. If we can’t even discuss that without being called a racist or causing ‘controversy’ then wave goodbye to all you hold dear.

Are all Muslims suicide bombers? Of course not. Are all suicide bombers Muslim? Most of the time yes. Not talking about Islam in this context is not an option.

Your discussion would also have to include successive Western administrations foreign policy in their abuse of the Middle East for oil/arms sales to create context.
As a father I was and am heartbroken at what unfolded in Manchester as that could easily be my kids at any gig I take them to. But hatred towards us does not exist in a vacuum, we have seen terrorism before in our country and again it was successive administrations oppressive treatment of the Irish combined with bigotry, poverty, ignorance and institutionalised sectarianism.
People still died and governments still asked that same question …why??
Perhaps the answer lies in response on the streets of Manchester the day after this atrocity. The hope that from such tragedy love and dialogue will prevail, not hatred and more violence

      • Couldn’t agree more.

      • That’s a good point; the ‘chickens coming home to roost’ view pretty much always comes up in these circumstances and I think it’s an attempt a rational response to the ‘why’. Unfortunately it does not work here because the ‘why’ is because we are infidels and the act itself is an act of martyrdom that gets the bomber into paradise, it is not a rational response to foreign policy or to economic distress.

We are applying our own views on these events. We say what would cause us to get up in the morning and think; ‘the best use of my time today and my life is to detonate a bomb amongst children’. We therefore think it must be unimaginable oppression, economic ravages and the brutalisation of the oppressed by ‘the West’ combined with young mentally malleable outcasts.

But consider the awful US foreign policy towards South Africa and Chile. Could anyone imagine Mandela or Allende ordering their supporters to slaughter children like this? No, and they did not.

When we heard that this was a suicide bombing of children did you think for a moment it might by PETA, Militant Mormons or Radical Atheists or perhaps even a resurgent IRA? No, you knew just as we all did that is was an Islamicist.

Was this man a simpleton led on by others? We don’t know but we do know he was a college educated Brit. He was not being oppressed, he had the same opportunities as everyone else so the ‘chickens coming home to roost’ doesn’t explain it.

What does and what is repeated ad nauseum in the ‘martyrdom videos’ is the obligation to take the war to the infidel. And the response from the infidel to the Islamicist which would stop this behaviour is conversion and acceptance of Islam. Nothing else. So, that’s what you have to do if you want to negotiate with these people or to alter our behaviour in response to this. Say goodbye to everything you hold dear in the enlightenment West. Equality of women is forbidden, music is forbidden, culture is irrelevant; there is only one book you need, art is forbidden, scientific enquiry is pointless; we already have the answers, and on and on.

Islamicism flows from Islam and it is fascism supported by religious self-loathing and self-important piety it is not rational and that is the point. If our response is to say ‘well, it’s our fault’ I think we should hang our heads in shame, if we attach such little value to our culture and our rights and to those poor children and families.

The question is how do we stop Islam turning into Islamicism? If we’re not even allowed to raise Islam as an issue how do we even begin?

        • Does your question also apply to Judaism?

          • James Dodds; no, suicide bombing is the result of religious belief, but the Torah doesn’t have the equivalent urging towards martyrdom.

Have there been Jewish terrorists? Yes, but there have also been Buddhist terrorists.

All religions are equally wrong but the path to martyrdom is unique to Islam.

  8. Brighton Belle

This man and his giant ego. How dare he spout on when he left the UK because he couldn’t stand it and then act as if he has been attacked personally.

I am sure Sadiq Khan, like anyone in a position of importance, is told to be careful what he says to avoid being inflammatory.

The Queen has the garden parties to thank people from all walks of life for their work etc. Why would that be cancelled? She was not having friends round for a jolly. They had a respectful silence.

Lastly – Brighton bombing and Jo Cox ring any bells Moz? MPs are never safe, but made as safe as they can be. No one could have known what that man would do and when. And we all know what an extremist is be they Muslim or otherwise.

    Utter crap.

  9. When are people going to realise that these monsters don’t care what we think of them they rape murder and torture men women and children we are assuming that everyone should abide by outdated agreements like the Geneva convention they don’t care if we are horrified appalled or shocked by their actions the security services know who are a threat to this country deport these threats and anyone connected with them who share the same ideals even if they are second generation and born here let them see what life is like under tyranny live here live by our rules integrate we need to act now before the Trojan horse opens its doors properly and its to late
