Micky Fitz (The Business) RIP

We are sorry to hear of the death of Micky Fitz – the charismatic lead singer of The Business who had died of cancer.

We had met Micky several times over the years and were always entranced by his wild enthusiasm for music or cameras or life or great rapscallion tales of life and music which he related with a garaloys charm and a voice that was cracked like old leather from years of rabble rousing.

Last time we we saw him he regaled us with great tales in a pub in SE London on a great evening of hilarity and energetic story telling . Magical.

He was a great frontman and a genuine charachter and owned the stage when he played with the band who were one of the classic oi bands.

  1. It is a sad day indeed when one of your early influences in your passion for music passes away. I have great memories of The Business when I was just 12 to 14 years old which will stay with me until my own demise. Those were the days when music was full of raw energy and had something worthwhile to say. R.I.P Micky

  2. The Business didn’t play the U.S. much but I saw them every time they did.

I met him a few times. He seemed like an honest down to earth type of bloke.

I love The Business and this is indeed a very sad loss for fans of Oi!/Street Punk!

When I go to the open mike later this evening I shall play Harry May in his honor.

    R.I.P. Micky Fitz!

  3. Very sad to hear this news. Mick was a good friend. He stayed with me and my family every time the Business played Boston. He was great with my kids. Imagine the singer of the business in bouncy house at a 6 year old’s birthday party.., that is punk. When he heard my wife had Marmite at out house they were fast friends. Mick you’ll be missed… Tom (Showcase Showdown)

  8. Just heard. Met him a couple of times, pleasant, witty fella and a sound frontman of a great live band. RIP Micky.

  9. Micky was a genuine, lovely bloke who also sang in one of the best and defining bands of the street punk genre. Unfortunately not recognised by a music press that couldn’t deal with the real thing, the Business were a band that defied categorisation and played from the heart. I’m glad and proud to have known him. Good on yer, Mick !
