Playlist W/C 6th June2011

Following the sad news Sunday 5th June that Martin Rushent had died; this week we have a complied the Playlist entirely from Rushent productions.

Pete Shelly ”˜Homosapien’ ”“ The first single from Shelly’s initial solo release of the same name. Released in 1981 on Rushent’s own Genetic record label ”“ This track was banned by the BBC, but was a hit in a number of European countries

The Stranglers ”˜Down In The Sewer’ ”“ Taken from The Stranglers 1977 album ”˜Rattus Norvegicus’

Buzzcocks ”˜What Do I Get?’ ”“ Buzzcocks were genius, add a genius producer; result perfect pop!!

999 ”˜Homicide’ ”“ 999 enlisted Rushent to provide a more polished sound to their 1978 album ”˜Seperates’ ”“ He suppassed himself”¦ I don’t think 999 ever sounded better!

The Human League ”˜Open You Heart’ ”“ Well not quite; Rushent had already crafted the Human League’s ”˜Dare’ album, taking them from interesting cult band and turning them into million selling bona fide pop stars. The League Unlimited Orchestra was Martin having fun, and possibly inventing the ”˜remix’ ”“ Hard to believe quite how revolutionary this first sounded. Stream the full album”¦

XTC ”˜Are You Receiving?’ ”“ XTC’s third single was released in September 1978, and was pulled from their second album, though oddly only the US version.

  1. A fine selection from what is an enormous catalogue.
Another sad loss, ironic that he should be the ‘author’ of JJ Burnel’s bass sound given the recent debate.

I don’t remember Homosapien being banned here.

  2. Funny that, I was thinking ‘Down in the Sewer’ myself!

  3. Great songs! Two of the all-time greatest Punk guitar solos on What Do I Get and Homicide…

  4. Quran (4:104) – “And be not weak hearted in pursuit of the enemy; if you suffer pain, then surely they (too) suffer pain as you suffer pain…”

  5. You’ve made some good points there. I looked on the web to find out more about the issue and found most people will go along with your views on this site.

  6. I have recently started a web site, the info you provide on this web site has helped me greatly. Thank you for all of your time & work.

  7. Excellent blog here! Also your site loads up fast! What host are you using? Can I get your affiliate link to your host? I wish my website loaded up as fast as yours lol

  8. I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

  9. Whats Going down i’m new to this, I stumbled upon this I have discovered It positively useful and it has helped me out loads. I’m hoping to give a contribution & assist different users like its aided me. Good job.
