Playlist W/C 6th June2011
Following the sad news Sunday 5th June that Martin Rushent had died; this week we have a complied the Playlist entirely from Rushent productions.
Pete Shelly ”ËHomosapien’ ”â The first single from Shelly’s initial solo release of the same name. Released in 1981 on Rushent’s own Genetic record label ”â This track was banned by the BBC, but was a hit in a number of European countries
The Stranglers ”ËDown In The Sewer’ ”â Taken from The Stranglers 1977 album ”ËRattus Norvegicus’
Buzzcocks ”ËWhat Do I Get?’ ”â Buzzcocks were genius, add a genius producer; result perfect pop!!
999 ”ËHomicide’ ”â 999 enlisted Rushent to provide a more polished sound to their 1978 album ”ËSeperates’ ”â He suppassed himself”¦ I don’t think 999 ever sounded better!
The Human League ”ËOpen You Heart’ ”â Well not quite; Rushent had already crafted the Human League’s ”ËDare’ album, taking them from interesting cult band and turning them into million selling bona fide pop stars. The League Unlimited Orchestra was Martin having fun, and possibly inventing the ”Ëremix’ ”â Hard to believe quite how revolutionary this first sounded. Stream the full album”¦
XTC ”ËAre You Receiving?’ ”â XTC’s third single was released in September 1978, and was pulled from their second album, though oddly only the US version.
