Live At Leeds 2014 – First Bands Announced
Live music invades every corner of Leeds city centre again on Saturday 3rd May, here’s all you need to know…
Is it really that time of year again? Well not quite yet, but festival season will be upon us before we know it – and as ever, the city of Leeds is getting ready for its Mayday weekend bonanza with Fuck Buttons, Albert Hammond Jr, and The Hold Steady among the bigger names on the first list of announcements. Other tasty names on the initial line-up include Welsh indiepop royalty Los Campesinos!, LTW favourites The Wytches, Leeds’ own atmospheric doomsters I Like Trains, BBC Sound Of 2014 finalists Ella Eyre and Chlöe Howl, and noisy hard rockers Pulled Apart by Horses – whose appearance at the 2011 event turned pretty much the whole of the Metropolitan University venue into one massive moshpit.
You know the score by now – buy a wristband (on sale now for £25 from LunaTickets), and see how many bands you can see in venues across the city. Test your nerve by gambling on how early you’ll need to be at one of the smaller venues to catch a band that’s become massive in the time between booking and performing (this always happens, place your bets now – last year saw The 1975’s appearance in the 500 capacity Cockpit the subject of many an angry hashtag); plot a schedule the army’s logistics wing would be proud of taking in ten stages and fifteen bands; stake out a venue from opening time to catch that essential act and watch whatever they stick in front of you while you wait; wander around without much of a plan seeing where you can get in and possibly discover a new favourite band.
The fun takes place on Saturday 3rd May, but there are various separately ticketed standalone gigs under the Live At Leeds banner throughout the whole bank holiday weekend including Brighton’s alternative duo Blood Red Shoes, Dublin based 2013 breakthrough rockers Kodaline and post-metal titans Neurosis. At this point we could cut and paste the full list of names, or you could just try and read them off that poster up there or visit the website.
We’ll be assembling a playlist and recommendations list nearer the time when a few more artists have been announced, but in the mean time let’s all enjoy this…
Live At Leeds takes place between Friday 2nd and Monday 5th May 2014. The following artists play separate ticketed events for which Saturday wristbands are not valid: Blood Red Shoes (Friday, Cockpit) / Melt Yourself Down (Full A/V Show; Friday, Brudenell Social Club); Snarky Puppy (Friday, Wardrobe); Kodaline (Sunday, O2 Academy); Neurosis (Sunday, Met Uni). All other artists will be on Saturday 3rd May across various venues. Tickets and wristbands are available from Lunatickets or from our favourite local record shops Jumbo and Crash (online or in person). Live At Leeds is also on Facebook and Twitter.
