Sad news has reached us this evening that Stooges drummer and founder member, Scott Asheton has died. He was 64 years old.

The following message was posted on Iggy Pop’s official Facebook page:

Important Message From Iggy:

My dear friend Scott Asheton passed away last night.

Scott was a great artist, I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Asheton’s have always been and continue to be a second family to me.

My thoughts are with his sister Kathy, his wife Liz and his daughter Leanna, who was the light of his life.

All of us at Louder Than War echo Iggy’s sentiments. The Stooges remain one of the wildest, truest and most vital bands of any era.

I’m sure we all remember the first time we heard songs such as I Wanna Be Your Dog, Search And Destroy or TV Eye. Scott’s passing is a great loss to music. Feel free to post your memories in the comments in celebration of Scott and a life lived to its fullest.
