Deerhoof are a band like no other.

The San Francisco base outfit’s music is full of stunning twists and turns and IDEAS.

Like a 21st Captain Beefheart they zig zag wander and delve into the modern musical soup from electro to prog to free jazz to hip hop in one bar of a song.

There is the impatience of the best of the Slits and their music is like the world’s greatest record collection compressed into these slices of perfect pop. With minimal gear and maximum ideas they compress brilliance into these thrilling salvos that veer from scratchy thrills to tripped out beauty and it comes as no surprise that their favourite albums reflect this brilliant eclecticism.

The band are touring the UK this month (all dates here) and have a Manchester show at Gorilla on Monday August 24th. Tickets for the manchester show are from here.

Deerhoof current favourite listening : number one : Gerald Barry – ‘The Triumph Of Beauty And Deceit’:

Deerhoof ‘What human life is but is pretending not to be. music is meaningless but it is loud, and fast…’

number 2 in Deerhoof’s top 10 albums is here

  1. This is such an awkwardly laid out piece, I just didn’t continue with the list.
