Middleton’s the Courteeners have announced a special one-off date at the Manchester Arena on December 7th, with support from the View.
Following their tradition of big Christmas gigs in Manchester (from selling out the Ruby Lounge to GMEX to the MEN to three nights at the Apollo), the concert promises more than a taste of their forthcoming record, expected in January.
Over the last six years, the Courteeners have grown into one of Manchester’s most popular current exports, and though a January release will mean nearly three years since their last album ‘Falcon’, excitement couldn’t be higher amongst their large fan base.
Speaking about the concert, frontman Liam Fray said: “We are delighted to be coming back to the city. The Manchester Arena holds amazing memories for us and we cannot wait to create a whole host of new ones on what will be a very special night. Come join the party for the beginning of our most exciting chapter yet. See you down the front.”
On the topic of the new album, Fray explained that, “It took a long time to write, it’s pretty serious, in terms of its subject matter, but it doesn’t take itself very seriously. You can’t say something really heartfelt, without cracking a joke in there too. That’s what it’s like…It doesn’t sound like us. I don’t even think our second album sounded like us. Once you think you have a sound, you’re limiting yourself in what you can produce.”
Tickets for the Courteeners at the Manchester Arena on December 7th are ã23.50 and ã15 and on sale 9am at Friday 31st August.
