Television – Marquee Moon

Tom – If you locked me away in a dark room with only this playing for a week I still don’t think I’d tire of the craftsman ship displayed in this album. So far ahead of its time, post-punk before punk had fizzled out. This album makes me feel like I was born 20 years too late to be honest.

Fugazi – Red Medicine

Tom – I don’t like lists and find it very hard to decide what my favourite is but here we go. This probably informed a lot of my guitar playing on our latest album I wish I had a second set of hands to do the same amount of work MacKaye and Piccioto do on this.

Patti Smith – Horses

Tom – I’m a sucker for late 70’s New York. I picked this album particularly for Smith’s poetry and distinctive delivery surrounded by music that swirls between beauty and straight up rock n roll. I think a lot of it is improvised but amazing just doesn’t. Class.

Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells

Mike – This was always the record of choice when I went on long car journeys with my dad as a wee lad. Amazingly to this day I’m still discovering new details and textures. Mike Oldfield is a genius.

Hell Is For Heroes – The Neon Handshake

Mike – My first ‘proper’ gig was Hell Is For Heroes, Reuben and Tyler in Northampton. Great show. I remember listening to this record on repeat for months afterwards.

Ellen Allien & Apparat – Orchestra Of Bubbles

Mike – This is still one of my favourite electronic records. I must’ve spent the whole year as a fresher looking for a copy in record shops around Leeds. Worth every penny.

Blakfish – Champions

Ric – Ahh Blakfish how I miss thee. I loved this album from first listen to last, it’s my go to album when I find myself lost for something to listen to and it’s basically just brilliant. Musical Mathematics ran a Blakfish day for a while and it was always a good excuse to blast through their entire works as loud as I dared for an entire day. The lyrics are so well written you feel like you could moan along with them, things like TV programmes (Lost) or just being poor, and so many riffs in this record give me goosebumps.

Faraquet – The View from This Tower

Ric – God damn it this album is beautiful. I was lucky enough to find two other people to cover Faraquet with me last year and learning this album was far too much fun (please someone ask me to do it again). I do quite a bit of running in my spare time and these three records feature quite heavily when I do, this one in particular though I find myself miles from where I started with no idea how I got there I’m so lost in the music, that’s a good thing by the way. It’s hard to pick a track from this album to link to .. I mean each one I get excited and think oh yeah this is the one. I guess just for the fun little trumpet bit i’ll go for….

Weezer – Pinkerton

Ric – Well to be honest it is just the best album ever isn’t it, and one of the only good albums my mum would let us listen to on the drive to school. Thanks mum.

Black Sabbath – Paranoid

The soundtrack to our late night drive’s back from gigs all over the country. The drum sounds on this record are immense.
