Dear Donald Trump,

We live in knife edge dangerous times. Cool and smart minds are needed to deal with a world that teeters on the brink. We desperately need people who can see the big picture and deal with the festering danger that seems to be everywhere.

You are not one of those people.

Your blustering crass attempts at populism have worked so far but there seems to be a flat tyre on your bulbous bandwagon as people start to wake up that the last thing the world may need is the serious shit turning into a laughing matter.

Politics may be a dirty game played by staunch idealists or wild eyed lunatics with self seeking agendas but the abject flailings of arch publicist and word pugilist Donald Trump is yet another step down in the sharp decline of political debate in the 21st century.

Just like the way that X Factor has replaced the Beatles as the prime driver in pop music, you have been hogging the cameras buffed up and full of hot air and rhetoric, There you go, flailing your arms around again like a desperate showbiz wannabe with 100 per cent ‘look at me’ and zero per cent talent.

Somehow, like X Factor, you were dominating the headlines and is getting the public vote. You were leading in opinion polls for the Republican nomination for 2016 election – a multi zillionaire who was a firm favourite of the people who wear T shirts we saw in the battered midwest of the USA bearing slogans like ‘liberalism is the looters voting for the moochers for…. – perfectly nice people hoodwinked into the blame agenda.

Poptician Trump – you are a rich man gifted billions who thinks the poor get over payed, the son of an immigrant who wants to throw migrants out of the USA – a country shaped, moulded and created by immigration more than any other, an ignorant, you are a well connected man who hates your own establishment – and yet your are, ahem, ‘trumping’ his rivals with every guttural utterance.

Like X Factor, Trumpolitics sees the thinner the talent the more likely you are to win, the more overblown the rhetoric – the more the world seems to listen. This is base level politics with the debate reduced to those TV soundbites from steroid mouthed wrestlers cranking up the gonzoid spiel before getting in the ring.

This is the wild eyed loon running amok in X Factor and the more gormless the chorus the higher up the charts it goes. This is a 21st century car crash and a modern fall of Rome gorged on spectacle. Like X Factor Trump and Trumpolitics has sold a paper thin dream as the truth and stands up as the anti politics poptician, the self made man who is the average American Joe who speaketh the truth,

Now truth is a very subjective word and everyone has a personal truth but Trump-truth is already quite wonky. You are a man with a hand me down fortune to throw around and who is a long way away from the average voter. A rich man with a rampant ego and too much time – you probably thought this nomination was ‘ good for your profile’ – some new US TV game you could play and gain brownie points with your bluffness and rudeness and your pig swilling in the mud, rank dumbness and grunting histrionics.

I doubt even you expected to get this far.

The real problem for you would actually be winning.

For fuck’s sake America you have more than 300 million people – there must be better, smarter candidates than this and even if we don’t agree with them we crave serious debate in these serious times.

Politics and who runs the most powerful country in the world is more important than X Factor and these podgy saucer eyed Neros with their fundamentalist flamboyant hot airs and gracelessnesses fiddling whilst Rome burns are not the answer…
